Short TermAccommodation

How It Works

shorttermaccommodation.net.au connects you with a registered NDIS short term accommodation (STA) provider who may have a stay that suits. You answer a few questions about the person, the stays you want and the support they need, we pass your details to one suitable provider, and they contact you. It's free for you, and you're never locked in.

  1. You Tell Us What's Needed

Who the stay is for, their age, the kind of stays you want, whether STA is in the plan, when, the postcode where they live and the support they need. Then how to contact you.

  2. We Find a Provider

We pass your details to one registered STA provider who may have a stay that suits, for the person's age and support needs.

  3. A Provider Contacts You

They call or email to talk about the support, the house, the dates and the cost. Nothing is booked until you're happy.

What Happens to Your Details

We only pass your details to a registered short term accommodation or respite provider who may be able to help. It goes to one provider at a time. If they can't help, we pass it to another, up to 3 in total, so you're not left waiting.

We ask for your consent first, because details about disability and support needs are sensitive. You can change your mind at any time by emailing hello@shorttermaccommodation.net.au. The full detail is in our privacy policy.

How the Service Is Free

Providers pay us when we introduce them to someone looking for a stay. That's how we keep the service free for participants, families and support coordinators.

It doesn't change the NDIS price limits. Providers can't charge NDIA-managed or plan-managed participants more than the maximums in the NDIS Pricing Schedule. We only work with providers who meet our standards.

What We Are, and What We're Not

We're an independent matching service. We don't run houses, provide support, decide eligibility or give advice about your plan, and we're not part of the NDIA or the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission. The provider you're connected with is responsible for the stay and the support.

We're not an emergency service. If a carer suddenly can't continue, call Carer Gateway on 1800 422 737 at any time. If someone is at immediate risk of harm, call 000.

Common Questions

How long does it take?

The questions take about two minutes. When a provider gets in touch depends on the provider. We follow up to check they did.

Can I choose my own provider?

Yes. You're never locked in. Under the NDIS you choose your providers. If a stay isn't right, tell the provider or tell us and we'll look for another.

Will lots of providers call me?

No. Your details go to one provider at a time. We only pass them to another provider if the first one can't help.

Do you run respite houses?

No. We don't run houses, provide support or advertise vacancies. We pass what you need to registered providers, who tell you what they have.

Can I ask you to delete my details?

Yes. Email us and we'll stop passing your details on and delete them, unless we have to keep something by law. See our privacy policy for how this works.
